How do you know if a girls shy? Girls answer please?

Ok im 17 and you've probably read my posts before. Anywho, im extremely shy and people say im cute/handsome but i dont believe them(i think im ugly and it makes me feels worse when people say im not, i know there lying) So there was this one girl whos extremely beautfiul and my friends said that she liked me.They said that she was showing signs of it but i never noticed :/ I didnt think she would like a guy like me. Unconfident :/ But she said i was really funny and cute. I couldnt talk to her because i was to nervous, i havnt talked to her all year and she said hi consistently and i just clammed up. In the common room ive seen her say Hi to like 2 boys but ive never seen her talking hanging around boys and talking to any of them. She only hangs around with the same 2 girls, she tried striking up conversations with me and kept asking me stupid questions, like "What time does lessons start?" At that time a few weeks had passed, i dont mean to be rude but she must know what time it starts even though its the start of college. Its a long post so im gonna wrap it up. Even though she socialises with lots of girls, and she says hi to me alot, and she seems really outgoing. Can she be shy? I mean towards boys. Because why didnt she just say that she liked me? Was she waiting for me to say it? I did come off as not interested, my shyness made it seem like i wasnt.
