How do singers make their voice overlap?

Normally it's just multitrack recording. And yes, it would be possible to do it live, if the timing was good- the words could either be pre-recorded and started during the performance, or played back on a loop very like feedback but with more delay. Autotune is simply an adjustment by electronics between the mic and the output (ie speakers).
