If the nba is locked out for the entire season, what happens to the expiring contracts?

Say, for instance, the NBA does not have a single game and there is no season. Do players with 1 year remaining on their contracts still have one year left? Or do their contracts expire? Is Dwight Howard going to be a free agent in the summer of 2012 no matter what or will be be a free agent after his next season? (which may end in 2013). I hope I'm wording this correctly...
