Team Fortress 2 ping question?

I downloaded team fortress 2 a few months ago and whenever I play my ping is always 200 or more. There have been many instances where it reaches 600. Most other players usually have below 100 ping. My internet is normally very fast when using a browser or streaming from netflix. What does my high ping mean and how can I lower it.
